Borneo Royale Hotel (“we”, “us”) operates this website and the booking system on it. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use them, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA).

What we collect
When you make a reservation we collect the details needed to hold and service your booking:
- your name, email address, telephone number and, if you provide them, postal address and country;
- your arrival and departure dates, the rooms and the number of guests;
- any special requests you type into the booking form, and your estimated arrival time;
- the booking record itself — reference, rates, amounts and payment status.
When you simply browse the site we record anonymous page-view counts and a count of unique browsers, together with the IP address and browser identification of the request. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Why we use it
- to create, confirm, change and service your reservation;
- to contact you about your stay — confirmation, changes, or a question about your booking;
- to keep the accounting and tax records we are required to keep;
- to understand which pages are useful so we can improve the site.
We rely on your consent, given when you submit the booking form, and on the performance of our contract with you. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, though we may then be unable to service a reservation.
How long we keep it
Booking records are kept for as long as needed to manage your stay and afterwards for as long as our accounting and tax obligations require. Browsing statistics are kept in aggregate and are not linked back to you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only where it is needed to run the hotel: our own staff, our bank and payment providers for settling amounts, and our accountants and auditors. We may also disclose it where the law requires it. Your data is stored on servers we control, and the website and booking system are served over encrypted HTTPS.
Cookies
We use a small number of functional cookies: one to keep your booking session together while you move through the reservation steps, one to display a message after an action, one to remember your language choice, and one to remember whether you asked to see prices in US dollars. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Language translation and currency display
If you switch the site to Chinese or Bahasa Malaysia, the page is translated in your browser by Google Translate, a service provided by Google. To do that, your browser requests a script from Google and sends it the text of the page you are viewing; Google’s own privacy policy applies to that request. We only load it after you choose a language — if you leave the site in English, Google Translate is never contacted. Machine translation can be imperfect, particularly for names and technical terms.
If you switch the currency to US dollars, prices are converted for guidance using a published exchange rate. All bookings are charged in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) — the amount shown in US dollars is an estimate and the rate applied by your bank may differ.
Your rights
Under the PDPA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal data of yours we hold and give you a copy of it;
- correct anything that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
- stop using your data, or delete it where we are not required to keep it;
- explain how your data has been used.
